PLEASE READ FIRST: Let me begin by saying when comparing this recipe to store bought PlayDough, it is close, REALLY REALLY close but not the same. I use this recipe for my toddlers and when I teach lessons on color theory because a BIG batch is considerably cheaper than store bought (and I have more control of the color). This recipe is one I have used multiple times, I didn’t invent it but I do love it. This recipe is really easy to make and not labor intensive.
The “Okayest” Recipe for Homemade Playdough
2 1/2 cups of flour
1 1/2 cups of salt
1 1/2 tbsp of Cream of Tarter
2 1/2 cups water
6 tbsp. of vegetable oil
Mix all ingredients together and cook on low heat (roughly 8 minutes, stirring regularly). When mixture becomes dough like remove from heat and knead. If you plan to color the dough, place in ziplock back and add food coloring (knead in plastic bag until you achieve a uniform color).
