I teach elementary art, have two toddlers and LOVE painting! I strongly believe that creating art at home does not have to be expensive. I created this homemade paint recipe that is inexpensive yet also enable children to experience creating with paint. While this paint won’t last the test of time, it will allow children to create works of art without hurting your pocketbook. Mix this paint with your children and teach them how to measure (and feel a freedom to create).
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
1/4 corn starch
3/4 cup warm water
Mix dry ingredients together then add warm water. Mix ingredients until smooth. Divide mixture into plastic bags/containers, add food coloring until desired color is reached. Placing mixture in plastic bags allows you to mix without getting your hands dirty. Transfer paint into cups, squeeze bottles or a paint palette.
THIS PAINT DOES NOT HAVE A SMOOTH TEXTURE. THIS PAINT IS GREAT FOR TEACHING YOUNG CHILDREN ABOUT COLOR THEORY BUT IS NOT IDEAL FOR DETAILED WORKS OF ART. SQUEEZE AND SPLASH THIS PAINT TO YOUR HEARTS DELIGHT!
